MAY KEY POINTS

LIVESTOCK SLAUGHTERED

  • The trend estimate for sheep slaughterings increased for the eleventh consecutive month, to 1.1 million, and was 14% higher than the same time last year.
  • The trend estimate for cattle slaughterings increased for the fourth consecutive month, to 672,000, and was 2% higher than same time last year.
  • The trend estimate for lamb slaughterings fell for the seventh consecutive month, to 1.7 million, and was 3% lower than same time last year.
MEAT PRODUCTION
  • The trend estimate for mutton production continued to rise for the eleventh consecutive month, to 23,400 tonnes, and was 23% higher than same period last year.
  • The trend estimate for pig meat production declined for the eighth consecutive month, to 30,000 tonnes, and was down 5% compared to the same time last year.
  • The trend estimate for beef production increased for the fourth consecutive month, to 181,000 tonnes, and was up 3% compared to the same time last year.
